Lake Charles Memorial Health System embraces a full transition to Epic, a new electronic medical record system (EMR) as of October 1, 2024, at 5:00 a.m. The health system’s staff, physicians, and clinicians spent 18+ months preparing for this historic transition to streamline systems and patient information into one centralized electronic medical record system. Ultimately transitioning to Epic advances the delivery of patient care, equips providers and staff with elite tools to care for patients, and allows for exponential growth in services offered to patients in southwest Louisiana for years to come.
“We are incredibly excited to offer this level and caliber of care to our patients.” says Devon Hyde, President & CEO of Lake Charles Memorial Health System. “It’s the most advanced shift in Memorial’s dedication to patient-centered care and will allow LCMHS to be well-positioned for the future of healthcare innovation.”
Prior to October 1, patient information was stored in multiple EMR platforms, but with Epic, all patient information will be available to clinicians and their patients in a single system.
At the forefront of this transition is Epic’s patient focused technology allowing for the implementation of a new patient portal equipped with everything a patient needs to manage their own healthcare from a single account. The MyChart portal allows patients the ability to schedule an appointment, message their provider, view labs and diagnostic results, and more. “The LCMHS staff and physicians have championed this project from the beginning and I have them to thank for the success of this EMR transition and look forward to seeing the positive impacts as we settle into the operational changes and new experiences Epic brings Lake Charles Memorial Health System and those we serve,” says Hyde.
The EMR transition comes alongside other efforts to improve patient access to essential health services, such as the new Diagnostic Center in Moss Bluff, the additions of several physician specialists to the medical staff, and a focus on operational changes that expedite patient access and convenience.
