Meet Gregory Rubino, MD
Gregory J. Rubino, MD, a board-certified neurological surgeon, brings over 20 years of state-of-the-art academic neurosurgical experience to Lake Charles, offering sophisticated surgical techniques usually only found in top academic centers to address complex spinal pathology in a community setting.
Dr. Rubino completed his baccalaureate degree at Cornell University and medical degree with honors at New York University Medical Center. After completing his neurosurgery residency at UCLA, he remained on faculty as assistant professor where he pioneered the intra-operative use of MRI to remove complex brain tumors. During his years at UCLA, research included utilizing radiosurgery to minimize brain injury while treating brain metastases and adapting surgical tools to the MRI environment. He also worked to integrate pre-surgical imaging with intra-operative brain mapping to make removal of brain tumors safer.
After leaving UCLA, Dr. Rubino mastered many complex and minimally invasive procedures used to treat neck and back pain. Dr. Rubino offers a complete array of surgical treatments for spinal disorders, including surgical decompression of nerve roots from degenerated or herniated and cervical and lumbar discs. Many surgical techniques, including fusions, utilize minimally invasive technology and intra-operative computer assisted neuro-navigation , decreasing post-op pain and speeding recovery. Dr. Rubino continues to be an active member of many professional organizations, including the Congress of Neurosurgeons, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, The North American Spine Association, and The American College of Surgeons. Over the past two decades, his research has been published in Stroke, Journal of Neurosurgery, Journal of Neurooncology, and Critical Reviews in Neurosurgery and Neuroimage.
