Meet Rachel Everette, MD
Affiliated Member of the Medical Staff at LCMHS.
Dr. Everette is a board-certified neonatologist who provides care to high-risk newborn patients in southwest Louisiana’s Level III neonatal intensive care unit at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital for Women. Dr. Everette is also board-certified in pediatrics and is the medical director of the NICU at Memorial for Women.
Dr. Everette has over 20 years of experience providing neonatal and pediatric medical care as a neonatologist and NICU Medical Director across Louisiana and Oklahoma. In addition to her vast medical training and experience, Dr. Everette is uniquely aware of the challenges for NICU babies and their families from her own experience as a mother – when her child was born at 26 weeks and spent three months in the NICU.
When your baby is admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), you can be assured that they will receive the highest level of care from a dedicated team of healthcare professionals. The NICU is staffed by specialist doctors known as neonatologists, nurses, and other medical professionals trained to provide the best possible care for your baby.
Neonatologists play a key role in the NICU. These doctors, like Dr. Everette, specialize in newborn care, particularly for premature babies or those with medical conditions requiring intensive care. Neonatologists are responsible for diagnosing and treating your baby's medical conditions, monitoring their progress, and coordinating with other specialists to ensure comprehensive care and support for your NICU baby and your family.
A native of Lafayette, Louisiana, Dr. Everette obtained her bachelor's degree in medical technology from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, including an internship at Lake Charles Memorial School of Medical Technology. She obtained her medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. Her post-graduate medical training included a pediatric residency and neonatology fellowship at Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans.
Dr. Everette has served on the Ronald McDonald House Board of Directors, was named as one of the Top Women in Medicine in 2021, has served as an adjunct clinical assistant professor at Oklahoma State University, and has been awarded numerous awards for medical excellence and numerous grants for continued research in the neonatal field.
She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Medical Association, and the Perinatal Section of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
