About Us
The Foundation at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit entity and serves as the philanthropic arm of the health system. Every dollar raised is used to assist the health system in funding programs and projects, advancing facilities and technology, and directly impacts the lives of our patients.
The doors of Memorial's flagship hospital, on Oak Park Boulevard, opened on October 22, 1952. Leading up to that day, the community saw a need for another hospital and enlisted the help of over 500 volunteers to raise about $600,000. The goal was to ask for donations from every resident in Lake Charles, even if it was just $1, ensuring Memorial was a hospital truly belonging to the community. In just under one month, the financial goals had been exceeded.
Today, it is through The Foundation, and the support of generous donors, that we are able to continue the rich tradition of philanthropy that Memorial was founded upon over 70 years ago. Memorial continues to proudly serve as the largest not-for-profit, community health system in southwest Louisiana. We are grateful for your philanthropic partnership and support of our mission!
